Are you tired you tired of your still desktop background? By setting a live wallpaper or animated desktop background, you can liven up your desktop. There’s no native way to do this in Windows 11, but there’s a handy third-party app you can use.
Download Lively Wallpaper From the Microsoft Store
To set a live desktop background in Windows 11, you’ll need a third-party application.
There are a lot of third-party apps out there that claim to do what they claim, but beware of downloading them unless you know and trust their developers. Most of these apps are infected with viruses.
The app we recommend is Lively Wallpaper, a free and open-source app. It is available in the Microsoft Store. Click on the Windows Search icon in the taskbar, type “Microsoft Store” in the Search box, and then select Microsoft Store from the search results.
Then select the Lively Wallpaper app from the search results in the Microsoft Store by typing “Lively Wallpaper” in the search bar.
You’ll then see some information about the application. Click “Get” to the right.
Lively Wallpaper will begin downloading as soon as it is selected. Using Windows Search, you can find it once it is installed.
Launch Lively Wallpaper from the search results.
Select a Live Wallpaper From Lively Wallpaper’s Library
Choose from a variety of live wallpapers in Lively Wallpaper. All you need to do is open the app and then select the one you want from the library. We will use Parallax.js in this example.
That’s all there is to it. The live wallpaper is now set.
Set a Custom Video, YouTube Video, or GIF as a Wallpaper
Even if you don’t find a wallpaper you like in Lively Wallpaper’s library, you can create your own using a video or GIF on your PC, or even a YouTube video.
Click the Plus (+) icon in the left-hand pane to begin.
Select a video or GIF from your PC by clicking “Browse” under Select File on the next screen.
The File Explorer window will appear. Click “Open” once you have located the video or GIF you wish to use.
If you want to use a YouTube video, enter the URL of the video in the “Enter URL” text box and click the right arrow button.
If you choose a local video or GIF, or a YouTube video, it will appear in the app’s library. From the left-hand pane, click the Library button (three books), then select the newly uploaded video or GIF.
As soon as you select it, it will appear as your desktop background.
Set a Live Wallpaper on Multiple Monitors
You may find that the wallpaper you selected is only applied to one monitor if you’re using multiple monitors. You can set the live wallpaper on other monitors by opening the app and clicking on the Control Panel (monitor) icon in the top-right corner.
The Control Panel for the app will appear. The default placement method is “Selected Screen Only,” which means that the wallpaper will only appear on the screen you select. To set a wallpaper on another screen, select it in the Choose Display group.
Then, go back to the app’s library and select the wallpaper you want to place on the other screen.
Additionally, you can change the placement method of the selected wallpaper. You can choose to make the selected wallpaper stretch across all screens or duplicate it on each screen. Simply click on the bubble next to the option you want.
Close Lively Wallpaper
To stop using the live wallpaper you set using Lively Wallpaper, open the app and click the Control Panel (monitor) icon in the top-right corner of the window.
Click “Close Wallpapers” in the Control Panel of the app.
The wallpaper will be removed.
